Data corruption is the accidental change of a file or the losing of information that usually occurs during reading or writing. The reason can be hardware or software malfunction, and due to this fact, a file may become partially or fully corrupted, so it'll no longer work as it should because its bits shall be scrambled or missing. An image file, for instance, will no longer display a true image, but a random mix of colors, an archive will be impossible to unpack for the reason that its content will be unreadable, and so on. When such an issue occurs and it is not noticed by the system or by an administrator, the data will become corrupted silently and if this happens on a drive that's a part of a RAID array where the info is synced between various different drives, the corrupted file will be duplicated on all other drives and the damage will become permanent. Numerous widely used file systems either do not have real-time checks or do not have good ones that can detect an issue before the damage is done, so silent data corruption is a rather common matter on internet hosting servers where substantial amounts of data are stored.

No Data Corruption & Data Integrity in Cloud Hosting

The integrity of the data that you upload to your new cloud hosting account shall be guaranteed by the ZFS file system which we use on our cloud platform. The majority of hosting suppliers, like our firm, use multiple hard drives to store content and since the drives work in a RAID, the same info is synchronized between the drives all the time. If a file on a drive is damaged for whatever reason, yet, it's very likely that it will be duplicated on the other drives as alternative file systems don't feature special checks for this. Unlike them, ZFS applies a digital fingerprint, or a checksum, for each and every file. If a file gets corrupted, its checksum won't match what ZFS has as a record for it, therefore the bad copy will be swapped with a good one from another hard disk. Since this happens in real time, there is no risk for any of your files to ever be corrupted.

No Data Corruption & Data Integrity in Semi-dedicated Servers

Your semi-dedicated server account will be shielded from silent data corruption as all our storage servers employ the efficient ZFS file system. What makes the latter unique is that it uses checksums, or digital identifiers, in order to ensure the integrity of each file. When you upload content to your account, it will be saved on a couple of redundant drives operating in a RAID i.e. the files shall be the same across all drives. All of the copies of a specific file will feature the same checksum on all drives and ZFS will compare the checksums of the copies in real time, so if it finds a mismatch, which would indicate that one of the copies is corrupted, it'll substitute that file with a healthy copy from one of the other disks. Even if there is an unexpected power failure, the data on the servers will not become corrupted and there will not be any need for a time-consuming system check that other file systems perform after some failure, extending the time needed for the server to get back online. ZFS is the only file system that can really protect your content from silent data corruption.
