Each registered domain has a minimum of two Name Server records which show where it's hosted i.e. by using these records you direct your domain address to the servers of a specific website hosting provider. In this way, you have got both your website and your e-mails managed by the exact same company. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), on the other hand, there are a number of other records, for example A and MX. The first one reveals which server manages the site for a given domain and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the second one reveals which server manages the e-mails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). As an example, any time you type a domain name in your web browser, your request is forwarded through the global DNS system to the company whose NS records the domain uses and from there you could be directed to the servers of a different provider provided you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain. Having separate records for the website and the emails means you can have your site and your e-mails with two different providers if you'd like.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Hosting

If you have a cloud hosting account with our company and you want to switch either your site or your emails to another company, it will take you literally only 2 clicks to do this. Our Hepsia CP provides an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domain names and subdomains will be listed alphabetically and you are going to be able to see and modify the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you want to use a different e-mail provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the default 2, it is not going to take more than a few clicks either to add them. You may also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the bigger the priority a given MX record is going to have. The propagation of each record that you change or create is not going to take more than a few hours and if required, you'll also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, that reveals how long a record will stay active after it's modified or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you acquire a semi-dedicated server plan from our company, you are going to be able to view and edit the A and MX records for each of the domain addresses or subdomains which you host inside the account. The Hepsia Control Panel, which you will get to manage the account, provides an advanced, albeit easy-to-use tool where all hosts will be listed in alphabetical order and you are going to be able to change their records with no more than a couple of clicks. If you have to create a new record, it will be equally easy - choose the domain/subdomain, type in the IP address or mail server record and you will be ready. You will also be able to set different priority for the MX records you create in case that you choose to use a third-party e-mail provider and they ask you to set up additional records other than the 2 standard ones. In case you encounter any problems, we've got a in-depth Help section with videos in which you can see first-hand how to setup or edit any record.
